Dai Williams

David Williams Date of Birth: Mar 26, 1893

Born in Liverpool in 1893, Dai first came to prominence with Glossop from whom he joined Notts County in November 1912 for the large fee of £750 in an attempt to save the Magpies from relegation from Division One.

He was in the Notts side that bounced back at the first attempt but during the season suffered a bad knee injury that necessitated ‘ground breaking surgery’. He recuperated at Belfast Celtic in 1914-15 but then the Great War broke out and he guested for both Arsenal and the Town leading to him signing on at Luton, who were quickest off the mark, in the summer of 1919.

A clever inside-forward and a maker and taker of goals he had a long run in the side until in February 1920 he had a particularly good game at Brighton and afterwards the Town were offered £200 (then a joint record for Albion) for his services which was accepted.

Dai enjoyed over a year at Brighton before finishing his career at Maidstone.
