David Bell

David Anthony Bell Date of Birth: Jan 21, 1984

Northamptonshire born David Bell, frequently referred to as the “Wellingborough Wizard” by Rushden & Diamonds fans after breaking into their first team in the 2002/03 season during which Rushden & Diamonds won the Division Three title. He racked up 144 appearances and 10 goals over 5 years, being a key component in a very good Rushden & Diamonds team.

Signed by Mike Newell midway through the 2005-06 season for a fee of £100,000, Luton Town’s first back in the Championship, David Bell originally started out as a squad player for Luton Town, unable to force his way into the team with depth and talent both in the middle and on the right hand side of midfield, making his debut against Hull and playing just 9 games as the Hatters finished 10th in the Championship. As players like Kevin Nicholls, Carlos Edwards and Ahmet Brkovic were poached by other clubs, David took his chance during the 2006/07 season playing 34 games for the Hatters, although relegated, David was a bright spark in the team while everything else was seemingly unravelling. David also featured in our season back in League 1, but with off the pitch issues starting to bite at the club, David was loaned out to Leicester City in the Championship, a transfer that was meant to become permanent, however Leicesters’ relegation to League 1 prevented the deal from being completed. David then signed for Norwich City for an undisclosed fee in the region of £700,000.

Following his one season at Norwich City, which was mostly disrupted by an ankle injury, he signed for Coventry City, where he went onto be a crowd favourite for 5 seasons. At the end of his contract with Coventry, he joined Notts County on a free transfer, before moving to Kings Lynn Town, before moving into coaching, as the assistant manager of AFC Rushden & Diamonds, before becoming the Corby Town FC manager.
