David Edwards
David Edwards Date of Birth: Feb 3, 1986 Share "David Edwards" on FacebookA tall midfielder of great energy and endeavour, Dave was recruited from Shrewsbury in summer 2007 for around £250,000 at the age of 21. Kevin Blackwell made a huge raft of signings during his short tenure as Luton manager, but this was arguably the best. Sadly Dave only made 26 first team appearances in Hatters colours, scoring four goals, before his
enforced sale for £675,000 to Wolves.
Although born in rural Shropshire, Dave qualified for Wales and won 43 full caps – the first two in November 2007 while with Luton. News of his call-up went largely under the radar at Kenilworth Road as it coincided with financial meltdown at the club, FA irregularity charges, various resignations and the descent into a third administration in less than nine years.
Dave’s final Luton game was the 1-1 FA Cup draw with Liverpool in January 2008, when he forced Arne-Riise into netting a late own-goal equaliser and then went agonisingly close to hitting a Luton winner himself. He would be sadly missed as Luton only won twice more in 24 remaining games that season. In almost ten years on Wolves’ books he played more than 300 League games before spells at Reading, Shrewsbury again, and Welsh non-leaguers Bala Town. His career total exceeded 600 games in all competitions. He has since published an autobiography, done media work and run his own business.
