Davie Ross
Davie Ross Date of Birth: Jan 8, 1884 Share "Davie Ross" on FacebookBorn in Darwen in 1884, Davie was the younger brother of George who skippered Bury to FA Cup glory in 1900 and 1903.
Davie joined Bury himself but could not stake a first team place so moved to Luton, along with fellow Shakers reserve team player George Lamberton in the summer of 1904.
A very clever forward who started the 1904-05 season at inside-left but then moved over to inside-right when local boy Bert Moody was re-signed and with whom he enjoyed a good playing relationship. An expert in the ‘punt shot’ (volley) Davie finished as top scorer that season but sadly declined a new contract and moved to Norwich where his form attracted a bid of £650 from Manchester City which was then a Southern League record.
After six years at City, Davie finished his playing career with spells at Dundee and Rochdale before passing away in 1947.
