Dublin born Dean joined Sheffield Wednesday from the exotically named Stella Maris Youth Club but found it impossible to fight his way into the side at Hillsborough.

When Ricky Hill became manager at Luton in the summer of 2000 he went back to Wednesday, where he had been coaching, and brought back Dean along with Peter Holmes.

A hard running left sided midfield player and occasional striker, Dean did not make much impact in an, admittedly, poor Hatters team and left to join Hitchin in 2002.

Since then Dean played for 14 different non-League sides before being given the managerial reins at Hemel Hempstead and from there Billericay and Wealdstone.
