Dean Morgan

Dean Morgan Date of Birth: Oct 3, 1983

Born in Edmonton, Dean caught the eye of Colchester United following trials with Luton Town, joining “The U’s” youth system, signing professional forms at Layer Road in 2001. Dean impressed with his speed, skill and ability with both feet on the both wings. However after 71 appearances for Colchester, the club accepted a mutual termination of his contract, with questions over his consistency and attitude. Dean was recommended to Reading by Phil Parkinson, joining in 2003, but the same problems arose, with inconsistent performances at the Madejski. Steve Coppell once referred to Dean Morgan as “the most skilful player at the club”. Reading decided not to renew his contract, opting to release him at the end of the 2004/05 season.

Dean was snapped up by Luton Town in the summer of the 2005, ahead of the first season back in the second tier for a decade. Dean dazzled on his debut, with a fine solo goal, sealing a win against promotion favourites Southampton on his home debut, which would go onto win the club’s goal of the season. However, Dean again was plagued with inconsistent performances and rumours of a bad attitude, due to displays of petulance on the pitch, and rumours of falling outs with team mates. However, with a huge efflux of players, Dean was offered a new contract at Luton, and played as Luton were relegated from the Championship. However, under new management, and with relegation, Dean feel out of favour at the club, moving on loan to Southend for the 2007/08 season, before loans to Crewe Alexandra and Leyton Orient. At the conclusion of the 2008/09 season, with Luton Town relegated to the Conference, and Dean not having played for the Town since March 2008 against Walsall in League 1, Dean left the club upon the expiration of his contract to join Conference Premier Gray’s Athletic, having made 101 appearances in all competitions, scoring 12 goals.

Dean had a relatively nomadic career, characterised by short spells at a whole host of clubs. After 2 appearances at Gray’s, he moved to MK, during which he ended the season Aldershot Town on loan. He then moved to Chesterfield, where once again his short shelf life resulted in him finishing his second season on loan at Oxford United. Dean then joined Wycombe for the 2012/13 season, where he became a key player, signing a short term deal, before earning an extension to the conclusion of the 2013/14 season, which was capped off with a call up to the Montserrat National Team. Short moves followed to Woking, Crawley, Italy with U.S Ancona 1905, Newport County, Iceland with Throttur FC, back to England with Welling United, Bishops’ Stortford, Margate, Beaconsfield Town.

Dean called time on his career, moving into coaching, setting up his own Football coaching academy, although he continued to play football in the Isthmean League with Uxbridge.
