Eddie Connelly

Edward Connelly Date of Birth: Dec 9, 1916

A feisty ball-playing Scottish inside-forward, Eddie was snapped up by Newcastle in 1935 from Rosslyn Park for £90 and although he could be a match winner on his day he failed to fulfil his potential and was allowed to move to Luton for £2,100 in March 1938.

At Kenilworth Road he soon became a crowd favourite for his trickery and it was a surprise when he was sold to West Brom just before war broke out. At the Hawthorns his temper got the better of him and he was banned sine die in 1940 after two dismissals.

The ban was later lifted and he guested for the Town during the war and rejoined the club in 1946 but a cartilage injury led to him moving down the divisions.

Eddie continued to live in Luton until his death in 1990.
