Frank Marshall

Born in Whishaw, Lanarkshire in 1878 Frank played for the local Athletic side before having an unsuccessful trial at Middlesbrough.

He came to the club in early December 1899 and played in a friendly against the Orange Free State. Made his League debut in a 2-0 defeat away to Small Heath. He scored in the 4-1 home defeat to New Brighton on the 23rd December.  He then scored a hat trick in a friendly against Mansfield on Christmas Day in a 7-1 victory but was described as “terribly weak” in the Boxing Day defeat to Chesterfield.

Frank was asked to leave the club in January 1900 as reported by the Luton Times. The club revealed a huge loss after a game when the gate money was £24 and the wages £40. The total expense for the week was £70. So Frank and 5 other players were asked to terminate their contracts and move on, which they kindly did.

Disillusioned, Frank returned to Whishaw.
