Fred Murray

Frederick Anthony Murray Date of Birth: May 22, 1982

Born in Clonmel, County Tipperary. Signed for Premier League Blackburn Rovers in 2000 but never made the first team. He went on loan to Cambridge United where he made 13 appearances before being signed by them in 2002. After 75 League games he moved on to Northampton in 2004 but it was a frustrating period hit by a serious achilles injury. Short spells followed at Stafford Rangers, Stevenage Borough, Exeter City and then onto Grays Athletic.

A change in management before Fred had kicked a ball saw him excluded from their plans. Fred was signed from Grays Athletic in August 2009 initially on a six month loan deal after Lewis Emanuel broke his toe. Made his debut in the 4 1 victory over Mansfield on the 11th August 2009.

Fred signed an 18 month contract in January 2010 when his loan deal was up. He played a total of 79 matches for the Town scoring one goal, a deflected shot in the 6 0 home win over Southport in April 2011. A dependable left back with a long throw, he held down the left back position until stretchered off in a defeat at York City in April 2011.

Manager Gary Brabin gave Fred a contract extension in July. Sadly the injury was worse than expected and it ended Fred’s career. In July 2012 his contract was terminated and Fred’s playing career ended.

Fred trained as a Physiotherapist at the University of Salford and took up his first position at QPR. Things went well at first but the politics of football became too much so Fred opened his own clinic in London.
