Fred Panther

Fred Panther Date of Birth: Apr 4, 1903

Fred was born in Manchester in 1903, but his family moved to Lincoln when he was young which led to him joining Lincoln City as a teenager.

In three seasons at Sincil Bank he made only 15 League appearances so left for Newark and then on to Peterborough and Fletton United where he was a prolific goalscorer coming to the attention of the Town.

Having seen him first hand playing against Luton reserves the Town signed him mid-way through the 1926-27 campaign. He made a scoring debut at Brentford then again in his home debut against Bristol Rovers but after three more games was dropped.

He made only three appearances in 1927-28 with the conversion of Andy Rennie from defence to attack placing him further down the pecking order.

Brighton paid a fee for his services in June 1928 but did not play him so he moved to Folkestone then to Raith Rovers where he scored 64 goals in 86 appearances!

Fred later ran a confectionery shop close to Raith’s Starks Park ground and passed away in Kirkcaldy in 1971.
