Frederick Riddell

Frederick Riddell Date of Birth: Jul 11, 1887

Born in Newhall, Derbyshire in 1887, Fred had played a handful of first team games for Derby County before leaving the club following a dispute and joining Watford.

The inside forward or winger then moved on to Norwich in 1909 where a badly broken leg effectively ended his first class career.

After serving in the Footballers Battalion in the Great War he ended up in Luton playing for Clarence but assisted the Town on a couple of occasions in 1919-20 as the club was getting back on its feet.

Lacking in pace, but still showing skill the cameo performances were not going to last and he spent the remainder of his football career acting as trusted chief scout for famous manager Major Frank Buckley.

Fred passed away in Nottingham in 1959.
