Gary Heale

Gary John Heale Date of Birth: Jul 15, 1958

Signed from Canvey Island by Luton Town in 1976 as an 18 year old, Gary had an unbelievable start to his Hatters career, scoring on his debut during the 7-1 thrashing of Charlton in September 1977 and then netting twice in a League Cup second replay against Manchester City two months later.

That was as good as it got for the skilful winger as he fell out of favour under new manager David Pleat and was sold to Reading for £40,000 which was a record for the Royals at the time.

A regular in the Reading side for three years, Gary was then surprisingly sold to Sparta Rotterdam and then moved to the States with his American wife where he became a coach.
