George Hedley

George Hedley

Born in Leadgate, County Durham in 1882, George had enjoyed spells at Middlesbrough, Hearts, Hull and Leicester as a solid right or left-back before arriving at Luton in the summer of 1909.

With over 100 League appearances under his belt, at levels higher than Luton, high hopes were expected as he started off in the left back position. He then moved over to right-back and lost his place completely after a 4-3 defeat at home to Southampton in February 1910.

It was with great disappointment that he was allowed to leave at the end of the campaign but he continued his career at Hartlepools and other non-League north eastern clubs until the outbreak of the Great War.

After the War he worked in road construction and passed away in Hartlepools in 1937.
