George Lamberton

George Lamberton Date of Birth: Dec 24, 1880

Born in Rossendale in 1880, George signed for Bury in 1901 before coming to Luton three years later with Davie Ross is a double move noted by the influential Athletic News as ‘the transfer coup of the close season’.

Preferring an inside-forward position George played most of his games for the Town at centre-forward or on the right wing but his play anywhere attitude enabled him to miss only one game in 1904-05 and net eight goals in a poor side.

Surprisingly, his contract was not renewed after one season and he went on to play for Clapton Orient in their inaugural Football League campaign before joining his brother James at Norwich.

George finished his career with various non-League clubs in the North-West and passed away in Middleton in 1954.
