George West

George West Date of Birth: Aug 19, 1893

Born in Wardley, Gateshead in 1893, George was a prolific goalscorer with Tyneside champions Windy Nook.

Brought to Luton on trial in March 1911 to play at inside-forward to replace Bert Moody who was out with a broken collarbone. He turned out in two games but did nothing to suggest that he should be kept on and returned to the north-east.

A second chance came his way in 1913 when he signed for Cardiff where he blossomed. After serving in the Great War with the Durham Light Infantry he helped the Bluebirds to election to the Football League in 1920 and played regularly in the fast half of 1920-21 before losing his place.

He played a handful of games in the next campaign before moving to Stockport in 1922 where he made three appearances before going back home to sign for Wallsend.
