Gerry Morgan

Gerry Francis Morgan Date of Birth: Jul 25, 1899

Born in Belfast in 1899, Gerry first came to prominence with Linfield, where he won the first of his eight international caps for Ireland, before signing for Nottingham Forest in 1922.

Converted to centre-half from left-half, Gerry was regarded as one of the best in the country and was particularly good in the air. Injuries cut back his appearances in his last two seasons at the City Ground and on signing for the Town in the summer of 1929 it was soon discovered he was not match fit.

Gerry made only four appearances in 1929-30 and following a 5-1 defeat at Bournemouth was not picked again and joined non-League Grantham before returning to Ireland where he was, at one time, physiotherapist for the FAI.

Gerry passed away in 1959.
