Hugh McGinnigle
Hugh McGinnigle Born: 1st July 1906 From: Share "Hugh McGinnigle" on FacebookBorn in Bargeddie in 1906, Hugh combined working as a ‘needle operator’ in a shipyard with playing for Falkirk when he came to Luton on trial in June 1930.
After starting in the Luton first eleven at wing-half he was soon converted to centre-half where he could switch from tough tackling to delicate passing out of defence in one move.
A crowd favourite, he was virtually ever present for four seasons until losing his place after a poor run of results at the start of 1934-35. From then on he was used as cover for injuries with his last game coming in the promotion winning season of 1936-37 in an 8-1 win over Cardiff.
After earning a well deserved benefit match against the Scottish Central League in his final season he left to join Aldershot for one final campaign before hanging up his boots.
