Jackie Slicer

Jackie Slicer Date of Birth: Nov 24, 1902

Born in Bramley in 1902, Jackie played in the Yorkshire League before being picked up by Herbert Chapman’s Huddersfield in March 1925.

Fed up with reserve team football, he left Leeds Road two years later for Norwich where he missed one game in three seasons as a fast, clever left-winger with a brilliant body swerve.

Surprisingly allowed to move to Luton in the summer of 1930 he was seen as the perfect supplier of chances for Andy Rennie but after a bright start the previously injury-free winger suffered a string of ailments which kept him out of the side for long periods.

In his second season there was more of the same – when he was fit he was brilliant but too often he was absent, leading to a parting of the ways in 1932.

After a spell in non-League with Ashton Nationals, Jackie came back for a few cameo appearances at York before finishing his career at Bury.

Jackie passed away in Huddersfield in 1979.
