Jesse Pye

Jesse Pye Date of Birth: Dec 22, 1919

Jesse had already enjoyed a full and successful career when he joined Luton for £9,000 in 1952 but even though he was 32 at the time he was soon regarded as one of the finest players to pull on a Hatters shirt.

Born in Rotherham, Jesse turned out for Sheffield United and Notts County before a big money move to Wolves in 1946 where he scored 95 League goals, two in the 1949 F.A.Cup final as well as an England call-up.

Showing superb ball control for a big man and a fine football brain, Jesse top-scored for Luton in his first season and was instrumental in the training and teaching of future Hatters record scorer Gordon Turner.

Citing the health of his wife, Jesse moved to Derby in 1954 before spending nine years at Wisbech with the last six as manager.

Jesse passed away in 1984.
