Jim Standen
Jim Standen Date of Birth: May 30, 1935 Share "Jim Standen" on FacebookAfter joining Arsenal from Rickmansworth Town as a teenager in 1953, Jim had to wait patiently behind the consistent and injury free Welsh international Jack Kelsey in the Gunners goal.
A goalkeeping crisis at Luton led to the athletic shot-stopper moving to Kenilworth Road in 1960 but once England international Ron Baynham was fit again it was back to the reserves once more for a frustrated Jim.
A move to West Ham, again to cover for injury, was more to his liking as this time he kept his place and picked up FA Cup and European Cup-Winners Cup medals during his stay at Upton Park.
An accomplished county cricketer, Jim emigrated to the USA once he quit first-class sport and worked for a Honda car leasing firm in California until retirement.
