Jimmy Blessington

James Blessington Date of Birth: Feb 28, 1874

A tough and shrewdly skilful Scot who was the model inside-forward of the time. Born in Linlithgow in 1874, Jimmy had three championship medals with Celtic and four caps for Scotland under his belt when he moved south of the border to join Preston in 1897.

Spells at Derby and Bristol City followed before he came to Luton in August 1900 as a marquee signing as the Town returned to the Southern League. Soon becoming a crowd favourite he remained virtually ever-present for three years before he opted to return to the Football League with Leicester Fosse where he eventually became their first player/manager.

In later life, Jimmy worked as an electrician in Luton and became a licensee in Newton Abbot where he passed away in 1939.
