Joe Deeney

Joseph Eugene Deeney Date of Birth: Mar 18, 1984

Born in Buluwayo, Zimbabwe, Joe’s family came to England at the age of 5 due to the danger in Zimbabwe as a result of the Robert Mugabe regime. Joe entered the youth system at Luton Town as a schoolboy, moving onto become an apprentice and then professional. Although Joe didn’t make waves like the other youth products who were coming through our academy at the time, the centre back managed two starts in the LDV Vans Trophy during the 2002/2003 season; in the 2-0 win at Woking, where he scored with a thumping header, and the 4-3 win at Stevenage Borough, before being released by Joe Kinnear at the end of the 02/03 season, moving to Enfield. Joe was soon back though, moving into coaching at Luton Town, becoming the head coach at the U14s Academy, then the 9s-16s Academy Manager before moving to the Youth Development Phase Coach position for the U15s and U16s.

Joe ended his 33 year association with the club in 2016, moving into Men’s football, with roles such as Assistant Manager at Oxford City, Manager at Hemel Hempstead, then joining Dunstable Town as head coach before moving back to Luton to take charge of the U18 academy team. Joe has also had a foray into professional Mixed Martial Arts, competing in 5 bouts, winning 3, losing 2.

Joe’s younger brothers David and Ash also both progressed through the youth system at Luton Town with David making 2 appearances for the Town, whereas Ash left the club after his youth apprenticeship came to an end.
