Joe Loughran
Joe Loughran Date of Birth: Aug 12, 1915 Share "Joe Loughran" on FacebookBorn in Consett in 1915, Joe had played local football in the North-East but was picked up by Birmingham when he was at Teacher Training College in Dudley.
He turned professional at St Andrews and played in their top flight side as a terrier like half-back. Moving to Luton in the summer of 1937 he spent a lot of his first season in the reserves but used his spare time to continue to teach.
He became a fixture in the Luton side in 1938-39 before accepting a teaching job in Burnley and also managing to obtain a transfer to Turf Moor at the same time!
Joe continued to turn out for Burnley after the war before enjoying four years at Southend, finishing up his playing career at Newhaven having obtained the post of Head of Physical Training for the County of Sussex.
Joe passed away in 1994.
