Born in West Bromwich in 1913, Joe played for Wednesbury and Leamington before enjoying two seasons at Shrewsbury, scoring 60 goals, including two sixes, in his second.

Signing for Luton in April 1934, he played just about everywhere for the reserves including a few in his favoured centre-forward position but made only one League start, at left-half.

Seeing his chances limited he moved on to Carlisle in September 1935 where he was altogether more successful. He followed this up with spells at Stockport and Oldham leading up to the outbreak of War.

Joe passed away in Birmingham in 1977.
