John Aston Date of Birth: Jun 28, 1947

It was a major coup by Luton manager Harry Haslam when he managed to entice the holder of both a League Champions and European Cup medal to Kenilworth Road.

Still only 25 when he came to Luton from Manchester United in 1972, John soon became a crowd favourite with his clever wing play encompassing a deceptive turn of pace, a tremendous left foot and an ice-cool temperament.

After helping the Hatters to the top flight in 1974, his knack of scoring vital goals almost saved the Town from their ultimately unsuccessful bid to avoid immediate relegation.

After leaving Luton, John had brief spells at Mansfield and Blackburn before concentrating on his Stalybridge business ‘Pet World’.
