John Clarke
John Clarke Share "John Clarke" on FacebookBorn in Busby, Renfrewshire in 1873, John played local football and after trials for Rangers did not work out decided to move south and joined Fairfield in the Lancashire Combination.
His centre-forward play caught the eye of Bury and after a short spell there he moved on to Blackpool.
It was seen as a major coup when he came to Luton in November 1897 having failed to agree terms with Blackpool, but managed only one game – a 2-0 home defeat to Woolwich Arsenal – before deciding to return to Scotland.
John died in Gallipoli in 1916 while serving with the 6th Royal Irish Rifles.
