John Collins

John William Bashley Collins Date of Birth: Aug 10, 1942

On leaving school, clever forward John signed on for QPR where he made a name for himself as a scorer of important goals. Spells at Oldham and Reading then followed and it came as a surprise when he was allowed to move to Luton in August 1969 especially as he had finished top scorer at Elm Park the previous season.

Hatters manager and ex-QPR boss Alec Stock knew who he was signing, and the £11,000 fee was money well spent as John netted 10 goals, mainly from the right wing, as the Town won promotion to Division Two.

After finishing playing John was assistant to old colleague Mike Keen at Watford and coach to Alec Stock at Fulham before running a building firm in West London.
