John Dow

John McIntosh Dow Date of Birth: Jun 17, 1872

Born in Scone, Perthshire in 1872, James played for Dundee Our Boys before being picked up Newton Heath where he was never a crowd favourite because he favoured a scientific approach from full-back rather than lump the ball upfield.

After a season at Glossop he came to the Town in 1898 and captained a struggling side that lacked experience and leadership by instilling discipline and tactical awareness. Along with most of the professionals, he was released in 1900 and went to Middlesbrough before returning to work at the club and making a couple of Southern League cameo appearances.

A tobacconist in Manchester Street in later life, James passed away in Perth in 1950.
