John Eckford Date of Birth: Feb 13, 1876 Share "John Eckford" on FacebookA small (5’5”) winger born in Buckhaven in 1878, who made a name for himself at Raith Rovers where he was a crowd favourite with his dribbling skills.
As bigger Scottish clubs hovered he decided to migrate south and join the Town in 1899. He was ever present in 1899-00 in a poor side so the supporters probably never saw the best of him and with a return to the Southern League in 1900 he left the club, along with most of the better paid professionals, and joined Middlesbrough before returning to Kirkaldy.
John was working as a ‘cashier’ when he passed away in Edinburgh in 1935.
