Establishing himself in Boro’s top flight side as a fast, hard tackling full-back he enjoyed four seasons at Linthorpe Road and Ayresome Park before moving to Luton in August 1906.
After a slow start, he made the right-back position his own but in his second season, injuries brought about by playing in physical football for ten years caught up with him and he retired from the game in 1908.
