Fleet footed inside-forward John started his professional football career with Hamilton Academical from where he joined Bradford City in 1957.

Becoming a crowd favourite at Valley Parade it needed a big bid to prise him away but upwardly mobile Northampton paid £5,000 in 1961 which proved money well spent as John helped them to promotion two years later.

Luton, newly relegated to Division Three, paid a massive £13,000 for his services in November 1963 but he was continually playing in a poor Hatters side although he always showed 100% commitment and flashes of ability.

Spells at Torquay and Rochdale followed as well as a managerial appointment at Market Rasen Town before he became a newsagent in Bradford. John passed away in Keighley on the 3rd of September 2021.
