John Sanderson

John Robert McDevitt Sanderson Date of Birth: Feb 5, 1918

Carlisle born John signed on for his local side in May 1938 and such were his performances at Brunton Park that a big money move to Wolves was secured the following February.

Unfortunately the cultured full-back did not manage to force his way into the first team before war broke out and at the end of the hostilities he was subject to another big transfer, this time to Luton.

John was only able to make six League appearances in 1946/47 before a severe knee injury finished his playing career but as he wanted to remain involved in football the Town offered him the position of groundsman. He picked up the rudiments of the job very quickly and combined this with Honorary Secretary of the Bobbers Stand Club for many years.

John was still living in Luton at the time of his death in 1993.
