John Taylor

John Taylor Date of Birth: Oct 24, 1964

After being made surplus to requirements at first club Colchester, John worked as a shipping clerk while playing part-time for Sudbury. Spotted by Cambridge United’s Gary Johnson he went back into the Football League in 1988 and was a member of John Beck’s successful ‘U’s side where he formed part of a powerful spearhead with Dion Dublin.

Surprisingly transferred to Bristol Rovers in 1992, John continued to bang in the goals leading to a £300,000 move to Bradford City followed by a £200,000 transfer to Luton in 1995. Sadly, a back injury cut short his appearances at Kenilworth Road just as he seemed to be setting up a good understanding with Dwight Marshall.

John went back to Cambridge where he achieved ‘Legend’ status before becoming manager at the Abbey for two years.

John then went on a tour of East Anglian non-League clubs who he played for and managed and was still turning out well into his forties.
