Ken Beaven

Early in the 1967/68 Fourth Division promotion season the Hatters suffered a mini injury crisis with wingers Ray Whittaker and Graham French both sidelined. For the important mid-week trip to Southend, manager Allan Brown decided to blood 17 year old apprentice Ken Beaven based on several outstanding wing performances for the reserve side.

The Town went down 0-3 to a strong Shrimpers outfit and Ken ‘without much support, showed up better on the left’. This was to be his sole first team appearance and he was eventually released and joined Chesham United.

Ken now lives in Hemel Hempstead close to his Bovingdon birthplace.
