Luke Berry

Luke David Berry Date of Birth: Jul 12, 1992

Born in Cambridge, Luke became a part of the Cambridge United youth set up, working his way up to become a crucial part of their first team squad. Luke became a part of the first team squad in 2009, eventually making his debut in 2010, and putting in performances that drew the attention of multiple clubs higher up the pyramid, in total playing 128 games, scoring 28 goals from central midfield and was instrumental in their promotion from the National League in the 2013/14 season through the playoffs.

He signed for League 1 Barnsley ahead of the 2014/15 season for an undisclosed fee, although making 33 appearances, scoring 1 goal, he was deemed surplus to requirements, rejoining Cambridge United ahead of the 2015/16 season becoming a crucial component of their squad, notching another century of appearances and 29 goals for the U's. Luton Town and Nathan Jones came knocking ahead of the 2017/18 season, with Luke Berry being one of the standout performers in League 2, fans were elated having signed a player who many thought could be the missing piece in a push further up the table.

It didn't take long for Luke Berry to announce himself to the Luton Town fans, after making his debut in a 2-2 draw against Mansfield in August, he notched a hat-trick in the 7-1 demolition of Stevenage at Kenilworth Road in October, and continued to progress with more all action displays from midfield. However, his season was sadly curtailed in March 2018, due to a leg break, during a match away at Colchester in the second minute. Luke made a return to league action in December 2018, with the Town now in League 1, and picked up his influence immediately once again as the Hatters secured back to back promotions to the Championship. Over the next 4 seasons in the Championship, Luke was a persistent figure in the first team squad, readily on hand to start or come off the bench and score crucial goals for the Hatters, with the 2022/23 season culminating with Luke Berry stepping up to take one of the spot kicks against Coventry in the play off final at Wembley, and was part of the team that secured Luton Town promotion to the Premier League.

Playing time was harder to come by for Luke Berry in the Premier League, with squad depth having been added in central midfield. Although, Luke was still crucial off the bench, notching his first Premier League goal in a 1-1 draw against Nottingham Forest at Kenilworth Road, a feat which made him the first Luton Town player to score in each of the top 4 divisions of the Football pyramid.

Upon the conclusion of the 2023/24 season, both Luton Town and Luke Berry decided not to extend his stay, citing that, although an option was present in his contract, out of respect to Luke, he would be allowed to leave on his terms to seek out first team football. Following his departure from Luton Town, Luke would go onto reunite with former manager Nathan Jones at League 1 Charlton Athletic.
