Another schoolboy international star, Matt signed on for Luton in July 1990 before making his League debut as a substitute in a 0-2 defeat at Arsenal in August 1991.

Eight games and two months later though, the commanding and intelligent defender was off to Everton for £600,000 where he played for five years picking up an FA.Cup winners medal in 1995 during his stay there.

A move to Norwich in 1996 followed and then on to Wigan in 2001 where he seemed to get better with age becoming club captain at the JJB Stadium in the top flight.

After short spells at Watford and Blackpool, Matt became a football consultant for IMG.
