Mervyn Day

Mervyn Richard Day Date of Birth: Jun 26, 1955

Goalkeeper Mervyn played almost 650 league games for a variety of clubs over a distinguished 20 year career after coming up through the ranks at West Ham and making his debut in the 1973/74 season.

Long spells at Orient and Leeds then followed and it was from the latter club that he came on loan to Luton in 1992 just as he was coming to the end of his career and the Hatters were about to be relegated from the top flight.

The Luton supporters were aggrieved that previous loanee Steve Sutton had not been signed on therefore Mervyn was seen as a poor replacement but he did little wrong in a four game spell.

Mervyn managed Carlisle and was assistant to Alan Curbishley at Charlton and West Ham followed by scouting roles at Leeds, Brighton and West Brom.
