Michael Spillane

Michael signed a three year contract with Norwich City in theSummer of 2006 when he was 18 years old. A defender and midfielder his opportunitiesat the Canaries were limited to 26 games in the next two seasons.
In 2008, the Hatters’ were faced with minus 30 point deduction and Michael and team mate Chris Martin were both sent on a season long loan. It proved a perfect fit as Michael, at 6 foot 3 inches added height to the defence, was comfortable on the ball and chipped in with 4 goals in his 49 appearances. He played in the Football League Trophy final victory over Scunthorpe United at Wembley in 2009.
His last game was the the Hatters last game in the Football League, a 2 0 defeat at Brentford in May 2009. Back to Norwich, he began a longer run in the side but it was curtailed by injury. In the Summer of 2010 he was transferred to Brentford where opportunities were limited and a loan to Dagenham and Redbridge resulted. The move ticked boxes for all parties and the loan was made permanent in January 2012 and he played 60 times scoring 9 goals.
A transfer to Southend United proved unsuccessful and Michael moved on to Cambridge United in August 2013. He was released in January 2014 and Sutton United took him on until the Summer of 2015. A season at Lowestoft Town then on to Chelmsford City in 2016 for whom he played 124 times scoring 24 goals. A brief spell as Assistant Manager, he then took over the role as Head of the Academy.
