Mick Harford

Mick Harford Date of Birth: Feb 12, 1959

One of the most popular players to have pulled on a shirt for Luton Town, Mick was the perfect centre-forward combining power in the air with a delicate touch on the deck. It is crying shame that he did not earn more than two England caps, both won while he was at Kenilworth Road, which he may have done were he to have been plying his trade at a more ‘fashionable’ club.

Sunderland born, Mick turned out for ten clubs in a long career but he enjoyed his best spell whilst at Luton, forming a tremendous partnership with Brian Stein, and was virtually unstoppable on his day with no defender relishing playing against him.

Mick subsequently coached and managed the Hatters during the 2008/09 season where Luton Town famously started on negative 30 points, before being relieved of his duties at the start of the 2009/10 season. He then rejoined the club as Chief Recruitment Officer at Kenilworth Road. Fortunately Mick got the redemption he sought from the managerial hot seat when stepping up to after Nathan Jones' departure to Stoke City in January 2019 with Luton Town very much in the promotion picture from League 1. Mick kept the club on track, overseeing a 6 month unbeaten streak that saw Luton Town clinch the League 1 title, before Mick reverted back to his role in recruitment. Mick stepped up to manage the club one final time after the second departure of Nathan Jones, overseeing a draw with Rotherham in the Championship before the 2022/23 World Cup break.

Mick Harford has also publicly battled prostate cancer, and has since become a keen advocate in raising awareness for men's health.
