Morten Hyldgaard

Morten Lauridsen Hyldgaard Date of Birth: Jan 26, 1978

Morten was born in Herning, Denmark and started his youth career with Brande IF, before continuing his scholarship with Ikast F.S. He then caught the eye of Coventry City in 1999 who parted with £200,000 for the 21 year old keeper, who at that point was a Denmark under 21 international. Initially first team games were tough to come by, with loan moves to Scunthorpe and Grimsby to continue his development. Morten finally broke through into the first team at Highfield Road in the 2002/2003 season making 27 appearances before it was realised that extra appearances would trigger an extra payment to his former club Ikast F.S.

Morten was mortified, moving north to Hibernian for the 2003/2004 season, where he was unable to displace fellow Scandinavian stopper Daniel Andersson, before Mike Newell handed him a lifeline signing him on a free transfer in January 2004. Morten made 18 appearances for the Hatters that season, primarily as second choice to Marlon Beresford after leaving Luton, Morten briefly called time on his career, before being coaxed back between the sticks by Esbjerg forenede BoldKlubber, before finishing his playing career with Aarhus.

Morten stayed around football after retiring, becoming a goalkeeping coach in his native Denmark, first at FC Midtjylland and then Skive IK.
