Although born in Scotland, Paul started with Arsenal and it was while with the Gunners he came to Luton on loan in October 1993 to gain experience and scored once (a 1-0 home win over Notts County) in 15 whole hearted appearances.
A £1 million move to Manchester City followed in 1996 along with ten Scottish caps and, later on, further transfers to Leicester and Blackburn leading up to a return to the blue half of Manchesterr.
After a long playing career, Paul had spells managing Oldham and Doncaster.
