High Wycombe born and a Bucks County youth player, Paul joined Luton as a trainee before making his League debut on the final day of the 1993/94 campaign in a 2-2 draw at Stoke.

A strong tackling midfielder, able to make telling forward runs, Paul suffered knee ligament injuries early in his career but bounced back to star in a poor Luton side that eventually dropped to the basement in 2001.

Paul took the opportunity at this point to move to Sheffield Wednesday on a ‘Bosman’ free transfer where he stayed three years in another struggling side.

Spells at Rotherham and Tranmere followed before finishing his playing career at Oxford United.
