Percy James

Percy James Date of Birth: Mar 9, 1917

Rhondda born Percy was 32 when he was picked up by Luton Town from amateur side Oxford City in 1949. The clever left winger made a scoring debut in a 2-5 defeat at Bury in October 1949 and kept his place the following week when leaders Tottenham were held to a 1-1 draw at Kenilworth Road in front of a then record League crowd of 27,319.

The Welsh Amateur international then surprisingly found himself out of the side and, although earning good reviews as part of a strong Hatters reserve side, decided to return to non-League football, joining Worcester City where he eventually became player/manager. Percy died in 1993.
