Peter had difficulty in earning a regular right wing slot at Coventry, such was the form of Ronnie Rees, and managed only ten starts in four years at Highfield Road as the Sky Blues moved up through the divisions.

Thoughts that a move to Fourth Division Luton in January 1968 would re-boot his career proved incorrect as he could never hope to displace the mercurial Graham French and he remained, as he had at Coventry, a good squad player who would never let the side down.

After spells with Margate and Canterbury as well as coaching at Kenilworth Road, Peter worked at Vauxhall until retirement. He was living in Luton at the time of his death in 2016.
