The tough tackling midfielder helped Palace to promotion to Division One in 1979 but managed to win a transfer two years later just before the unfortunately named ‘Team of the Eighties’ was relegated.
The £400,000 move to Arsenal did not work out and needing to play to keep his place as the Welsh international captain transferred back to Palace before being rescued by Luton’s David Pleat in 1985.
He was a revelation at Kenilworth Road with his ball winning skills and it was only the attraction of European football that lured him to Aberdeen in 1987. After spells at Chelsea and Watford, Peter coached at youth level before moving back to Wales where he managed Barry and Newport and Llanelli.
