Ralph Hoten

Ralph Vincent Hoten Date of Birth: Dec 27, 1896

Born in Pinxton, Notts in 1896, Ralph first came to the fore at Notts County at the end of the Great War but failed to make his mark there. A move to Portsmouth in 1921 was more to his liking, becoming a regular in the side before a move to Luton in March 1922 in a swap deal involving Tom Parker.

He soon became a favourite at Kenilworth Road as a ‘fast, clever and strongly built’ inside-forward and it therefore came as a shock when he was allowed to move to Northampton in November 1924 where he racked up over 200 appearances and netting 75 goals in five seasons.

Ralph finished his career with a short spell at QPR before becoming a coffin maker and coal merchant in Wellingborough.

Ralph passed away in Wellingborough in 1978.
