Robert Brewis

Born in Newcastle in 1885, Robert first came to the fore at QPR where his exploits at centre-forward took him into the League with Lincoln and then Burnley who paid £500 for his services.

After a spell at Merthyr, where he helped the Welsh side to promotion to Division One of the Southern League, he returned to the North East with Hartlepools United from where the Town picked him up in September 1913 as cover for Ernie Simms.

It was soon found that he could play as an inside forward so he turned out in more games than he expected as the Town won promotion from the Southern League Division One with his stand-out performance scoring five goals in a 7-0 rout of Aberdare at Kenilworth Road.
