Born in Denaby in 1913, Robert was playing as a full-back with Gainsborough Trinity along with another future Hatter Sam Mayberry when he was spotted by the Town and brought to Kenilworth Road in 1937.
He only made sporadic appearances over the next two seasons being unable to topple Tom Smith and then Tom King before being released just before War broke out and joining Bristol Rovers.
Robert passed away in Gainsborough in 1986.
