Robert Riley

Started out as a junior at Leicester City but the competition at half back was fierce and Robert was released in the Summer of 1964. The Town had watched him in the Foxes Reserve team and duly signed him. Bob told the Leicester Mercury “I am very pleased, Manager Bill Harvey has found me a house next to the Luton ground and I hope, in the next 12 months, to prove that I can make the League grade."

Described as strong and assertive, good things were expected. However, he was to make just one first team appearance, a 1 0 win at Port Vale in the League Cup - which was also 16 year old Bruce Rioch’s debut.  Bob went on to sign for Wigston Fields and then Hinckley Athletic, the latter playing in the Southern League. In December 1967 he moved on to Oadby and then on to Wigston Town. He also played local cricket.
