Roly Legate
Roly Legate Date of Birth: May 4, 1939 Share "Roly Legate" on FacebookSon of Arlesey, Roland was turning out for his local side in the Parthenon League and attracting scouts from several clubs which meant that Luton Town had to move smartly to sign him on professional terms on his 17th birthday in May 1956.
Five months later Roland was making a goalscoring debut in Division One but after three appearances it was back to the reserves and although National Service took a chunk out of his career it was not until the 1960/61 campaign that the forceful winger earned a recall and scored four goals in five games to answer his doubters.
He was released at the end of the following season but eight goals from 15 starts from the left wing was an eye catching return.
After spells at Yiewsley, Folkestone and Stevenage, Roly returned to Arlesey who he played for and managed for many years.
